The government has launched a New Homes Accelerator programme to help speed up the delivery of new homes that are stuck in the planning system.

It is estimated that, across 200 large sites in England, there are 300,000 new homes with outline or detailed plans that have not yet been built1. The new programme therefore aims to resolve specific local issues and address blockages on each site.

This should help to drive economic growth and meet the government’s target to build 1.5 million new homes over this parliament.

Additional work will take place to accelerate work on sites including Stretton Hall in Leicestershire, Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community in Essex, and Biggleswade Garden Community in Central Bedfordshire. When completed, they could unlock over 10,000 new homes.
